Week One
Saving you time and money by experimenting and reflecting!
An update on the weeks progress and activities.... and a Big Question!
Big Question
What are you working on this week to help improve your golf game?
Technical
Things continued as they were. Sigh! One round played (Stats below) with an 84 that included 2 double bogeys from good positions and more poor approach play. My front 9 was poor and started so well an excellent Birdie on the first.

Losing 5.3 shots on approach versus a ‘Scratch’ player, is hurting me. Really hurting me!

In order to begin to remedy this, I planned in a practice session, as per my plan, at the range. Using Adam Young's The Practice Manual book (link a the end of the article) for inspiration, I decided on two practices:
Practice 1: Low point, using the towel drill
Basic set up with an iron, place the towel 5-6 inches behind the ball, focusing on making good contact with the ball and avoiding contact with the towel.

I worked through the bag from SW to 6 iron, changing clubs each time. Hitting a total of 35 shots (3 balls with each club). The key for me was to not worry about the result of the shot and to focus on low point contact.
Practice 2: Draw and Fade drill
Changing clubs each time, attempt to hit a draw shot (ball starting right and curving left for a right hander) and then attempting to hit a fade shot (ball starting left and curving right for a right hander).
The idea behind this, as described in the book, is to focus on the shape and to eventually have the 'feel' to find the middle of the two different shots. A bonus is you can also call upon that 'feel' if you start off a round hitting it with a slice or a hook, to help remedy the action and reduce its impact, or need to hook or cut one out from under a tree!

Physical
Current weight - 92kg (14 stone 5 lbs)
I have tracked my food and drink intake using MyFitnessPal for 4 days.
I have attended the gym once this week. I use an app on my phone called Strong and wrote a 6 week program. This helps me track my exercises and the weight used, to ensure I am making progress each session.
My workout below, is Workout A of my plan. Keep an eye out for a video detailing the workout structure. This will enable you to plan your own workouts, using the same structure.

Psychological
I have my process goals ready for each type of shot:
Full Shot
Pick a clear target (as small as possible)
Visualise the shot
Check alignment to target line
Commit
Short game
Pick a landing spot
Visualise the shot
Practice the feel
Soft grip and hands
Putting
Identify a line
Pick a spot on the line 6-10 inches in front of the ball
Practice the distance feel looking at the hole
Recreate the feel
Tracking how well I do this will give me a % of success across the different shots in the round.
